Just Me

since 1979

And this is the Story…

I come from the countryside, shaped by a black-and-white TV, books from an old library, a child’s magazine, a radio station, and a family with its fair share of problems—much like any other family in the world.

I wasn’t the best student, and I’m proud of that. Not because I was unintelligent, but because I was a lazy, intellectually curious teenage punk who sought free access to underground concerts. To achieve this, I learned to play the trumpet and formed not one but two ska bands. Yes, it worked—I gained free access to any concert.

Then, without any particular reason, I decided to study advertising, and here, you can find my path:

my career path

2004
Beggining as an Art Director

I unknowingly started my career at the end of traditional advertising as we knew it. I worked during the final days of Above-the-Line (ATL) advertising when it was still the dominant force.

My first exposure to the internet was in 1999, and it always intrigued me. However, when I began college, it wasn’t a big deal yet; all the attention was on TV, radio, and print media. The same held true for my first job in the industry.

Internally, I sensed that a significant change was on the horizon.

2009
A Digital Beginning

In 2009, I embarked on a less-traveled path where advertising became more interesting and disruptive: the digital realm.

This was when I began working in comms strategy. By 2011, I had the privilege of taking on my first role as Creative Interactive Director. During this time, we had the honor of catapulting Costa Rica’s top local brands into the exciting world of interactivity.

Back then, every brand aspired to be a part of the social media landscape.

2013
Regional Experience

In that year, I relocated to Honduras. When we began, there were only three people in the department, but by the time I left BBDO in 2017, it had grown to 17.

During my time there, I was involved in both local and regional campaigns. We initiated a digital-first approach to enable integrated communication, leveraging data to gain deeper insights.

2018
Return to Costa Rica

I returned to confront an unfamiliar country and began from scratch. During my homecoming, I worked on the client side, but my true passion lay in agencies.

At that time, businesses were embracing a crucial concept: clients sought out small, nimble, and cost-effective agencies. For me, it marked the pinnacle of advertising in Costa Rica—a constant and exciting challenge.

2020
Digitas Guatemala

Two years after my return to Costa Rica, I seized an opportunity to embark on a new chapter in my career, reporting directly to Publicis Groupe.

One of the largest communications holding companies launched its new digital business unit in Guatemala, known as Digitas, serving the region. I took on the role of Managing Director, facing two significant challenges: leading a regional pitch for Walmart and navigating the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, just two months after relocating.

By mid-2022, the agency had achieved profitability, boasting a team of 70 professionals covering Central America and serving clients in the region (Walmart and Claro) and across Latin America (Payless).

2022
VML NA, Formerly WTC&T NA, & Gorilla Group

VML, formerly Wunderman Thompson Commerce & Tech NA, a WPP Company, invited me to spearhead its new LATAM operation based in Guatemala.

After two and a half years of successfully building and growing operations at Digitas, the opportunity to lead this new venture arose. Formerly known as Gorilla Group and  Wunderman Thompson Commerce & Tech (WTC&T), VML North America offered me the position of Senior Group Director for the Performance Media operation in the U.S. market.
