along the way

I don’t remember who told me,

but at some point, I grew up with the idea that the best friend of a person is a book.

since 1985

To confess something about myself, it was hard for me to understand how to read. I’ll never forget how challenging it was to connect the letters of my name in a book from Jean-Paul Sartre – ‘La Nausea’ – and realize that was the spelling of my name. My mom told me that this book was the cause of my name; now, I’m just Paul.

After learning how to read and write, my curiosity for more books started, and then came movies, and then TV series, and then people who wrote, directed, acted, or just had a different way of thinking.

Here, you can find some of the material that has shaped my life and intellectual thinking.

Books, records, movies and people.

Books, records, movies and people.

books

I can’t list everything I’ve read, but I can share some of the books that have made me realize that life is about thinking, loving, and understanding mankind.

Then, I was told that a person who is truly into advertising reads everything that falls into their hands. At that moment, I knew I was in the right direction.

Movies

My imagination took flight with my first visit to the movie theater. The question of which movie it was has lingered in my mind for a long time. I can say it had to be either Mazinger Z (the movie, from the Japanese animated series) or Katy La Oruga (Katy Caterpillar, a Mexican animated film from 1982).

Now, you can see some of my favorites that not only bring me enjoyment but also prompt me to think deeply. At some point, I realized that working in advertising is the closest thing to making a film.

Records

Since the beginning of my time, I’ve loved music. You can take something out of my life, but not music. I don’t know if it was because my mom listened to music a lot when I was inside her, or maybe it comes from my unknown father.

Every important moment in my life has a song. Here, you’ll find the records that have meant something to me since the first time I listened to them. They still have this effect on me

People

People come and go, and then there are others who stay glued to you for a long time. Obviously, your family comes first, but there are other people whom you’ll respect as if they were a brother, uncle, because they have been with you for a long time, even if they don’t know it!

Here are a few of the people who have been with me on good, bad, or ordinary days. Musicians, writers, film directors… but, in the end, for me, they are people who think or thought differently and have something to teach you in one way or another.”
